Michael Kenna. Photography

Artema St. 55-b

From October 16th to December 8th, the exhibition of selected photographs by Englishmen Michael Kenna will take place in the Kyiv Brucie Collections Gallery. Ukrainian capital has an opportunity to see original works of the guru of modern black-and-white photography for the first time. His landscapes serve as an example for photo-artists from all over the world for more than 30 years already.

Having graduated from London College of Printing and having moved to the States, Kenna worked as an assistant of the “queen of photooffset printing” Ruth Bernhard. The young photographer has developed his own recognizable style and typical work technique under her supervision. He still uses this technique in his work. Kenna is a convinced supporter of film photography and attaches great importance to the process of printing – he can work with negatives for months, sometimes even years.

Michael Kenna’s works were highly appraised by critics and collectors worldwide. His photographs can be found in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, in the National Library in Paris, in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and in other prestigious galleries. The author has 370 personal exhibitions and 75 photo books and publications to his name.
