The creative history of the theater began in far 1927, when it was created as worktheater of one of the Kharkiv regions, the then capital of Ukraine. Soon, in 1933, the mature creative team was transferred to Donetsk, where it opened its first theatrical season with the premiere of the I. Mikitenko's drama "Bastille of the Mother of God".

Very soon the theater's team won the hearts of the audience and became one of the best in Ukraine, significantly due to uniqueness, originality and diversity of the performances, peculiarity and resourcefulness of the team. It is also confirmed with numerous guest performances not only in Ukraine, but abroad as well.

The repertoire of the Melpomene's temple is being constantly enlarged and supplemented with ever newer plays. Today you may see comedies "Boeing-Boeing" by M. Kamoletti and "My Wife's Name is Morris" by R. Shart, musical "Some Like It Hot" and many others on the stage of the theater.
